It is reported that American Airlines has suspended flights from Miami to Governor's Harbour (GHB), and is instead sending all flights to North Eleuthera, with bus service to GHB. The Tribune article is here: article

An email from Hon. Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, the Minister responsible for Aviation, notes:

*The changes referred to at the airport are actually IMPROVEMENTS regarding the removal of two towers that will make flying into the airport safer. These kinds of changes need to be indicated electronically in the sophisticated systems of American Eagle. All other carriers will continue to serve Governor’s Harbour Airport as before while the company that Civil Aviation has engaged to map the new approaches completes its work.

Contrary to the charge, Governor’s Harbour has not been downgraded, in fact, it is simply undergoing the systematic improvements that have been identified in the recent audits to improve all of our Family Island Airports. So far from failing to maintain Governor’s Harbour Airport, the airport is receiving the kind of improvements that it should have received for the past decade. As is mentioned quite correctly, there is no loss of passengers as American Eagle will arrange for their ground transport to Governor’s Harbour until the mapping is done, downloaded into their system and they return to Governor’s Harbour.

Similar work has been completed in Abaco, Exuma and San Salvador and will continue throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas until we have airports throughout our country that will end the neglected development of the Family Islands in that regard.*
